La Pistil is a collection designed by Ashley Ishii, which offers a handmade mix of feminine, fun and vibrant dresses, rompers and tops for women. "While I was in high school, during a summer break, I took a sewing class and couldn't believe how much fun I had creating something I designed.”
Despite the stick-thin models seen on the runways, Ashley's approach to fashion stems from an idea of comfort for women of all shapes and sizes. La Pistil dresses feature empire waists and are often cut to float generously around the body. "I like creating clothing that woman will enjoy wearing comfortably all day; you can look good and be comfy!"
Ashley is currently enrolled in the University of Hawaii at Manoa's (UHM) Apparel Product Design and Merchandising program. She plans to graduate next Spring, in 2010. "I am passionate about my work and I make sure each piece is made with love, care and soul." Ashley has used her talent to give back, as well. For a time, the proceeds from her sassy Ladyflash Rompers were donated to City Joy, an organization dedicated to stopping violence against the women & children of the Congo initiated by Eve Ensler of the Vagina Monologues and the VDay Movement (http://www.vday. org/drcongo).
So far, Ashley has received great feedback for her line. She has been featured in the Honolulu Advertiser, the Honolulu Star Bulletin, and SMART Magazine; along with participating in Urban Pacific, Fashion Week at the Pearl and more.
